In an attempt to install Microsoft Office 97 Professional on Windows Vista 64bit when the SETUP looks this ugly error:
The file version is not compatible with the version of Windows running. Check the information system of the computer and see if you need version x86 (32bit) or x64 (64bit) program, then contact the software vendor.

Americans on some forums I found some post stating the correct installation of Office 97 on Vista 64bit so I had the idea to replace the file SETUP.EXE on the CD version of Office with the Italian version of English, and here that the installation has started and is successful file. Incidentally both the installation and Office are in Italian!
Note for Access
In case of error "This application uses CTL3D32.dll, 'which has not Been Correctly installed" (This application uses CTL3D32.dll not install properly) during the installation with the inability to start Microsoft Access (inability to find the System.mdw file), proceed as follows:

- Copy files and Wrkgadm.exe ctl3d32.dll from the C: \ WINDOWS \ SysWOW64 \ folder to C: \ WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \
- Start sysadmin team (Wrkgadm.exe) and create a new file System.mdw
UPDATE, HOW TO OBTAIN THE SETUP.EXE FILE IN ENGLISH:
- Download Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1) English by Microsoft
- Unzip the downloaded file, sr1off97.exe (you can use 7-Zip )
- Among the unpacked files file is present SR1Off97.exe, which must be unpacked
- Among the files unpacked the setup.exe is necessary to replace the original Office 97

Hello Alexander,
download the Service Pack 1 of Office 97 unzip the file and then the sr1off97.exe SR1Off97.exe files (then use 7-Zip), you will find the setup.exe to be replaced with the original note that you must use the option "Run as administator".

@ Alessandro
What version of Vista 64bit use? I rehearsed it a Ultimate SP1.
Verify that the copy from the folder SysWOW64 to System32 is successful.
Finally check if the Windows Event Viewer there is any error information.

Hello Carlo,
you have not followed the procedure, you must first extract the file and then the file sr1off97.exe SR1Off97.exe (appeared at first extraction), only the latter are in setup.exe
