For details how to set the default in Windows Vista follow these steps
- Open MY COMPUTER
- From the menu select VIEW DETAILS
- From the TOOLS menu (if the menu is not displayed see bottom of article) select FOLDER OPTIONS ...
- Section of the press APPLY TO DISPLAY FOLDERS
NOTE: You can still apply the DETAIL display (or other option) are a group of folders and their sub-folders, just select them in the first step instead of MY COMPUTER DISPLAY MENU 'select the EDIT LAYOUT PLAN OF BAR and click MENU ' 
UPDATE
It seems that Vista has a bug with custom view, to correct this problem with regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Classes \ Local Settings \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell and create a new DWORD value named BagMRU and 10000 or more
